Seeking a creative, innovative Marketing and Communications Specialist with excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and project management skills, and a strong understanding of digital and print communications strategies. Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will be responsible for generating original content designed to engage diverse audience segments for print, digital and social media platforms, and for managing projects to support the College’s internal and external communications strategies.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Assists in the production, development and management of content for the College’s communications channels, including the website, Rapport magazine, e-newsletters and emails, podcasts, videos, flyers, brochures, and other materials to support marketing, fundraising, and community or public relations efforts.
Actively seeks out stories that support the strategic messages central to enrollment, fundraising and communications campaigns; conduct interviews with faculty, staff, senior leadership, students, alumni, and other subject matter experts; and develop stories that promote the College’s accomplishments and activities to internal and external audiences.
Writes, edits, and proofreads content for communications, marketing and advancement materials as assigned.
Serves as the communication liaison to multiple departments across the college to support promotion of events and activity through social media, digital signage and email marketing, including our weekly internal newsletter.
Coordinates photo and video shoots and podcast recordings, as appropriate, and assists in preparing final content and visuals for distribution.
Responsible for day-to-day social media engagement as well as creating, executing, and assessing an annual social media content and engagement strategy primarily driven by student recruitment and brand awareness.
Experience in designing marketing and/or advancement campaign materials, and/or experience with photography, videography, or desktop publishing is highly desirable, as is prior experience in higher education.
Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
Other projects, tasks, and administrative duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, business, English, or a related field;
3-5 years of relevant experience in public relations, communications or marketing working with traditional, social and/or digital media;
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word;
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to practice sound judgment in communicating effectively with a diverse and high-level group of individuals in a diplomatic and professional manner;
Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues and partners across the College;
Must be able to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in an environment characterized by rapid change;
Discretion and an ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
