Orange Media Network is seeking an Assistant Director of Advertising & Marketing. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
Student Media informs, persuades, guides, educates and entertains while serving the OSU community and the greater Corvallis area. In the process students receive a comprehensive understanding of the media and the skills needed to create it.
The Assistant Director of Advertising & Business provides guidance, training, advice and feedback across all media platforms for student-led programs at Oregon State University’s student media department, Orange Media Network. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Student Media and works closely with the Student Media Leadership Team.
The Assistant Director works with the Student Media Leadership Team in recruiting, training and coaching student staff and supports students and professional staff in the development of integrated,
multimedia products in order to facilitate the production of high-quality media and maintain a fiscally sustainable series of programs. The Assistant Director works directly with Advertising Team students to meet sales quotas; works directly with Creative Team students to produce effective and engaging advertising and promotional materials, and Promotions and Marketing students to grow engagement and awareness of OMN and its media content through campaigns, events and research.
Positions in this job profile perform supervisory and managerial work within a subset of Student Affairs. Duties performed include developing, implementing, and evaluating short and long-range goals and objectives. Employees develop, implement and enforce plans, policies, procedures, systems, programs and performance standards. They participate in strategic planning efforts as part of the management team. They are responsible for managing staff, equipment and facilities. They determine resource needs and priorities and make recommendations to executive management. They determine training needs and make appropriate arrangements for provision of training.
1.Develops and executes a comprehensive plan for establishment of multiple student focused programs within the Orange Media Network organization by directing goal-setting and program development; researching best practice; assessing campus needs and reviewing outcomes
2.Supervision including planning, assigning and approving work; rewards/discipline; responding to grievances; hiring/firing (or effectively recommending); preparing and signing performance evaluations/reviews of employees including classified and/or professional faculty
3.Provides direction, development and training to student staff and practicum and intern students to ensure a high level of efficiency, outcome and accountability in the programs and services provided.
4.Ensures compliance with University policy, State and Federal Regulations
5.Develops and manages processes and systems to ensure efficient and effective workflow and support the strategic plan of the university, college, department or division.
6.Oversee collaborative, external relationships and opportunities to develop and enhance the identification, service, recruitment and retention efforts for the program.
7.Creates and facilitates program curriculum to ensure that students meet goals and identified learning outcomes
8.Serves on the Orange Media Network Leadership Team assisting in creation of long term strategies, goals, staffing plans, funding, and OMN organization.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):
Typically requires Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field. 3 years’ experience related to the discipline of the college, unit or department.
Bachelor's or advanced degree in advertising, marketing, business, communication, journalism or related field
4+ years of full-time, professional sales, advertising and/or marketing experience
Demonstrated experience and success growing social media and online engagement
Experience managing a staff
Extensive knowledge of Mac computers and software for production including InDesign,
Illustrator, Photoshop and other publishing, design and project management software
Experience in sales management
Proven success in meeting sales targets
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent customer service and relationship building skills
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of advertising sales, marketing, public relations, layout and design and promotions, digital and online media.
Evidence of ability to work with students in a supportive, positive, constructive, and mentoring atmosphere.
Demonstrated experience in coaching a team and successfully achieving individual/group performance outcomes. Lead work should demonstrate ability to understand team dynamics, establish performance and
behavior expectations and provide support for individual and team developmental goals.
Ability to relate effectively to college students with a commitment to student content control.
Management and supervisory skills which includes the application of various coaching, management,communication models to achieve successful team and individual outcomes.
Ability to lift 30lbs
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU STANDARD 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
